Ember

Ember is a credible, serious design system for nonprofits and community foundations that want an editorial voice rather than a stock-photo charity look. A deep warm-dark canvas and cream text carry a single burnt-orange ember accent, while a display serif paired with a clean sans keeps long-form giving copy dignified and easy to read. The signature is a full-bleed split diptych hero: two duotone panels with a giant serif word straddling the seam, lit by a thin ember-glow rule that recurs beneath the mission, along the stats band and across the footer.

Grave, warm and trustworthy — a deep-dark editorial canvas where a single ember accent makes patient, credible giving feel serious.

Spark

Every spark of generosity finds a hand already at work. Ember is a community foundation that moves quiet, unrestricted money to the people closest to the need — no fanfare, no strings, just the next small fire lit.

Our belief

Change rarely arrives as a blaze. It begins as one spark — a meal shared, a rent covered, a young leader believed in — tended patiently until a whole community is warmer for it.

Our programmes

Three ways we keep the fire lit.

Different names, one method: put trust and resources in the hands of the people already on the ground, then get out of their way.

Design rules

The system, applied to any site

  • Set the whole site on a deep warm-dark canvas (near-black brown) with cream text and reserve a single burnt-orange ember accent for the logo dot, headline highlights, stats and buttons so the palette stays grave and disciplined.
  • Make the hero a full-bleed split diptych: two side-by-side duotone panels evoking community, with one enormous display-serif word on each half that reads as a two-word phrase across the seam.
  • Run a thin, glowing ember rule as a recurring motif — down the diptych seam and beneath eyebrows, the mission line, the stats band and the footer — to tie the page together with one spark.
  • Pair a display serif (e.g. Fraunces) for headings, mission statements and big numbers with a clean sans-serif (e.g. Inter) for body and uppercase nav to balance editorial gravity with legibility.
  • State impact as an audited ledger — a hairline-divided row of big serif numbers (people reached, dollars granted, communities funded, cents-on-the-dollar) rather than boastful marketing claims.
  • Present programmes as a numbered editorial list with founding dates and plain-spoken descriptions, and keep giving copy honest and specific — real percentages, unrestricted funding, no fanfare.
