Trail

Trail is a release-notes layout built for shipping teams who write changelogs as part of the product. A vertical timeline threads dated entries together, each carrying a version pill, a New/Improved/Fixed chip, a headline, and a tight bullet list of what changed. A sticky left rail of version anchors lets readers jump between releases, while a subscribe block at the foot turns passers-by into followers.

Quiet, dev-friendly, and effortlessly scannable — a changelog people actually read.

Release notes

Every change we ship to Trail, written by the people who built it. Updated most weeks — subscribe to get each release in your inbox.

v3.4.0New

Saved views and shareable filters

  • Pin any combination of filters as a named view and switch between them from the project switcher.
  • Share a view by copying its URL — recipients land on the exact same filter state.
  • Pass --view=triage to the CLI to open a saved view straight from your terminal.
v3.3.2Improved

Faster timeline rendering on large projects

  • Reworked virtualization so projects with 10,000+ entries scroll without dropped frames.
  • Reduced the initial payload by lazy-loading entry bodies below the fold.
  • Jumping between entries with the j and k keys is now instant on every project size.
v3.3.0New

Webhooks for published releases

  • Subscribe to the release.published event to fan changelog updates out to Slack, Discord, or your own service.
  • Every delivery is signed with an HMAC header and retried with backoff for 24 hours.
  • Inspect and replay recent deliveries from Settings → Webhooks.
v3.2.1Fixed

Markdown and timezone corrections

  • Fenced code blocks inside bullets no longer lose their language label on export.
  • Release dates now respect the workspace timezone instead of falling back to UTC.
  • Fixed a focus trap that kept the Esc key from closing the entry editor.
v3.2.0Improved

Redesigned entry editor

  • Switched to a split editor with a live preview pane so formatting is visible as you type.
  • Drag entries between Draft, Scheduled, and Published columns without leaving the page.
  • Autosave now runs every few seconds and surfaces a clear last-saved timestamp.

Design rules

The system, applied to any site

  • Anchor the page on a single vertical timeline: a thin rule down the left of the content with a node dot at each release, so entries read as a continuous, dated thread rather than disconnected cards.
  • Encode change types with colour, not prose: a green chip for New, an indigo chip for Improved, and a neutral grey chip for Fixed, kept small and consistent so readers triage at a glance.
  • Pair every entry with two pieces of metadata up top — a monospace version pill (e.g. v3.4.0) and a plain human date — then a short headline and 2–4 terse bullets that each start with a verb.
  • Keep a sticky left rail of version anchors on wide screens; highlight the active version and let the timeline scroll independently so the index is always reachable.
  • Stay light and hairline: white canvas, a faint #F6F7FB surface for pills and rails, 1px #E8EAF0 borders, 10px radii, and reserve the indigo accent for links, the active anchor, and the Subscribe button.
  • Use monospace only for version numbers and inline code/flags so technical detail signals itself without shouting; everything else stays in a clean sans for readability.

Our story
“We started with one borrowed oven, a sack of flour, and the stubborn belief that bread tastes better when nobody’s in a hurry.”

Eight years on, we still mix every dough by hand, still proof it overnight, and still sell out by noon most days. Flour & Ember is run by the same two bakers who opened it — you’ll usually find us dusted in flour behind the counter.

— Mara & Tomás, founders & head bakers
