Kanban

Kanban is a crisp, focused template for project and task management tools. It pairs a calm light canvas with a single disciplined teal accent, a fixed left sidebar for Projects, Inbox and Calendar, and a top bar with view tabs, a filter and a New task button. The heart of the layout is a four-column board — Backlog, In progress, Review and Done — of compact task cards carrying label chips, monogram assignees, due dates and subtask counts, closed off by a slim activity and stats strip.

Calm, organised and momentum-driven — a quiet light workspace where work flows left to right.

Design rules

The system, applied to any site

  • Build on a soft cool-grey canvas (around #F6F8FB) with pure-white cards, deep-slate ink (#15212B) and grey muted text (#6B7A8D); reserve the single teal accent (#0D9488) for the active nav item, the selected view tab, the New task button and the most important counts only.
  • Use a persistent app shell: a fixed ~232px left sidebar with a wordmark and labelled nav (Projects, Inbox, Calendar, Members), and a slim top bar carrying the board name, Board/List/Timeline view tabs, a filter control, a small overlapping avatar stack and a primary New task button.
  • Model the workflow as a kanban board with four fixed columns — Backlog, In progress, Review and Done — each headed by a coloured dot, a title and a count chip, with a faint canvas-tinted column body so cards float above it.
  • Make every task card compact and scannable: a one-line title, one or two small coloured label chips, a coloured monogram assignee block, a due date with a tiny calendar glyph and a subtask progress like 2/5 — never photographs, only initials in tinted squares.
  • Keep corners soft (10–12px), borders hairline and low-contrast (#E6EAF0), shadows almost imperceptible, and lean on whitespace and a 12–13px label scale rather than heavy dividers to separate regions.
  • Close the layout with a slim bottom strip mixing a couple of compact stat readouts (tasks done this week, due soon) with a short newest-first activity line, using small coloured dots and tabular numerals.

Our story
“We started with one borrowed oven, a sack of flour, and the stubborn belief that bread tastes better when nobody’s in a hurry.”

Eight years on, we still mix every dough by hand, still proof it overnight, and still sell out by noon most days. Flour & Ember is run by the same two bakers who opened it — you’ll usually find us dusted in flour behind the counter.

— Mara & Tomás, founders & head bakers
