Emberfall

Emberfall is a premium, distillery-inspired landing page for a coastal single-malt whisky. The hero leads with provenance — an oversized Fraunces serif headline beside a pressed wax-seal specimen card stamped XVIII with the age statement (region, maturation, strength). Below it a pinned, sticky stage plays a cinematic golden-hour clip that is SCRUBBED frame-by-frame with scroll (videoMode="scrub"): the scene walks forward and back as you drag the page while four tasting beats — the cask, the pour, the nose, the finish — cut in over it. The plate is framed as an editorial photograph, with thin corner brackets and a vertical cask-dip gauge that climbs to the 18-year age statement (no film gate, no sprocket rails, no frame counter). The rest of the page is a real product page on a warm, peat-black canvas with antique-gold and sherry-cask-oxblood accents: a horizontal tasting flight (colour → nose → palate → finish) on a connecting rule, the range of three expressions (Emberfall 12 / 18 / Cask Strength) as a refined bottle lineup stepped up on a shelf, a cooperage cask-maturation story with warehouse imagery and a draw-on concentric cask-hoop line art, an awards wall of pressed wax-seal medallions with a critic quote, and a find-a-bottle stockist locator CTA. The wax seal is the signature motif throughout; only the range and cooperage use real photography.

A warm, peat-black distillery editorial selling a beautiful dram — antique gold and sherry-cask oxblood, a pressed wax-seal motif, and a cinematic golden-hour plate you scrub frame-by-frame on scroll to walk through the cask, the pour, the nose and the finish.

A whisky thesea slowly makes.

Emberfall is matured eighteen years in first-fill oak in a stone warehouse on the shore — dark honey and dried fig laid over toasted oak and a slow curl of peat smoke. Drawn one cask at a time, bottled at natural colour.

The cask does the slow work

We hand-select first-fill oak, char it in our own cooperage and fill it in a stone warehouse on the shore that has never had heating. The sea air works into every stave — and eighteen slow winters later, the spirit becomes Emberfall.

  • Charred and coopered on site, cask by cask
  • Matured entirely in first-fill oak on the coast
  • Bottled at natural colour, non-chill filtered

“The 18 is the rare coastal malt that stays warm rather than sharp — honey and ember, and a finish that will not let go.”

Design rules

The system, applied to any site

  • Sell the whisky first: this is a landing page for "Emberfall", a premium single-malt. Every headline, beat and stat is about the dram (provenance, the cask, tasting notes, the range, the cooperage, where to buy) — never about scrolling or the animation itself.
  • Make the hero a TRUE frame-by-frame scroll-scrub: pass videoMode="scrub" to ScrollStory with the dedicated /templates/video/emberfall-whisky.mp4 clip and a generous scrubVh, so a golden-hour landscape walks forward and back as the page is dragged while four tasting beats (the cask, the pour, the nose, the finish) cut in over it. Frame the plate as an editorial photograph — thin corner brackets and a vertical cask-dip gauge climbing to the 18-year age statement — NOT a film gate (no sprocket rails, no frame counter, no REC HUD).
  • Lead with provenance: open on an age-statement / specimen band — a pressed wax-seal card stamped with the Roman numeral XVIII and the region, maturation and strength — before diving into the tasting.
  • Build on a warm peat-black canvas (around #0A0705) and treat surfaces as a cask room: antique-gold and sherry-cask-oxblood radial gradients, a soft warm shimmer wash, and a heavy inset vignette.
  • Set one oversized Fraunces serif display headline (clamp into the 3–6em range) filled with an antique-gold clipped gradient, then drop hard to calm Inter body — and keep all age statements, provenance and labels in a system monospace.
  • Make the WAX SEAL the signature motif (concentric rings with a pressed Roman numeral / mark), reused in the nav, the specimen card, the section dividers, the cooperage bullets and the awards wall. Use antique gold (#C99A34) and sherry oxblood (#7E2E1C) only as accents; keep large surfaces matte peat-black.
  • Sequence the page distinctly: provenance hero → scrubbed plate → horizontal tasting flight → refined bottle lineup on a shelf → cooperage cask-maturation story with a draw-on concentric cask-hoop SVG → awards wall of wax-seal medallions + critic quote → find-a-bottle stockist locator. Use real whisky and warehouse photography ONLY in the range and cooperage sections — never leave an empty frame. Include an over-18s / drink-responsibly note.
